Our Annandale, VA Dental Practice

General and preventive dental care is just the beginning of what we offer. We also offer cosmetic and restorative dental treatments, including Zoom! Teeth Whitening, Invisalign and Six Month Smiles adult braces, veneers, and dental implants.

All our rooms are equipped with personal televisions, blankets and headsets. We offer nitrous oxide to help relax you and for our more fearful patients, we offer minimal sedation treatments.

Everyone should have access to the best possible family dentist. At Annandale Smiles we accept all PPO Insurance plans and work with dental financing companies like Care Credit and Compassionate Health Care Services. For those without dental insurance we offer the Annandale Smiles Platinum Membership Plan.

Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Steven Johnson

Dr. Steven Johnson graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1985 and completed a general practice residency at West Virginia University. He is a graduate of the Neuromuscular Program at the World Renowned Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies. He has been certified for the treatment of Lumineers, Invisalign, and Endodontic Dentistry.

Annandale’s Family Dentistry has been open for 40 years, when it was first started by Dr. John Daniels in 1963. Steven Johnson came into the practice soon after his graduation in 1988 and became a proud servant to Annandale’s dental needs.

Dr. Michael Dong

Dr. Michael grew up in Northern Virginia. He graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2008. After spending time with his own general dentist, appreciating both the art and science required, he became inspired to pursue a career in dentistry. In 2013, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. To enhance his knowledge and skills after dental school, he completed a one year Advanced Education General Dentistry residency at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA).

He continues to take continuing education courses to enrich his interests in restorative, implant and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Michael is an active member of the Spear Faculty Study Club with like minded dentists to broaden his understanding of professional techniques and topics, and to share effective skills and expertise. He is also a standing member of the Pankey Institute, and Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Michael is happy to be back on the East Coast near his family and friends and excited to be serving his community. He is thrilled for the opportunity to be working at one of the top dental practices in the Northern Virginia area at Annandale Smiles. His desire is to build lifelong relationships with his patients and help them gain the confidence that comes from a healthy and beautiful smile. Keeping healthy himself, his favorite pastimes revolve around sports including playing basketball, running, and learning to play golf.

Dr. Sanam Kheirieh - Endodontist

Dr. Sanam Kheirieh earned her Doctorate Dental degree from Iran in 2005. She worked as a general dentist for six years. After practicing dentistry and performing research projects, she decided to continue her career in the field of Endodontics. She received her specialty degree in Endodontics from the University of Maryland. She also earned Master degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Maryland.

She continued to expand her knowledge alongside her clinical skills through research projects infield of dentistry and specifically dental materials. Dr. Kheirieh has several publications mainly in the field of Endodontics and almost 500 citations. She has numerous oral and poster presentations at scientific dental meetings.

In 2015, she was awarded the “Sherril Ann Science Endodontic Research Fellowship Award”, for demonstrating exceptional ability in the field of endodontic research. This award was granted for developing “Nanogel-based Scaffold in Endodontics”.

Dr. Lynn Alexander

Dr. Lynn Alexander is a prosthodontist who completed her residency at the University of Minnesota. During her three years of specialist training, she received comprehensive instruction in implant restorations. She also gained extensive experience in rehabilitating patients with complex restorative and cosmetic needs. Because of this, Dr. Alexander is skilled at treating challenging cases that involve extensive crowns and bridges, implants, and dentures.

After completing her residency, Dr. Alexander moved west to San Francisco, where she practiced at UCSF Faculty Group Practice and served as the director of the pre-doctoral implant program and assistant clinical professor at University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry. During her time there, she won the UCSF Xi Psi Phi Teaching Award and the Admiral Paul Riebe Award for Excellence in Teaching, which is presented annually to an outstanding clinical professor as voted for by the entire student body.

Dr. Alexander is also a spokesperson for the American College of Prosthodontists, which aims to raise awareness about prosthodontics to the public and engage consumer media in educating the public about when to seek the care of a prosthodontist.

Dr. Alexander is a very compassionate dentist who truly enjoys getting to know her patients and establishing an authentic working relationship with them. She strives to put her patients at ease by alleviating their fears about seeing the dentist, and enjoys actively involving them in all phases of their treatment. Dr. Alexander is passionate about educating her patients on the importance of preventive and comprehensive oral healthcare. She is also a big proponent of minimally invasive dentistry.

During her free time, Dr. Alexander enjoys hiking, photography, and exploring new locales with her husband and very mischievous (and feisty!) Labrador retriever puppy.

Dr. Joshua Pruden - Endodontist

Dr.  Joshua Pruden is a practicing Endodontist who joined Annandale Smiles in 2019 so the practice could better serve our patients and save them money by allowing them to have root canals performed in our office. Dr. Pruden received both his undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of West Virginia. Dr. Pruden later completed his endodontic residency in Augusta, Georgia at Fort Gordon with US Army.

Dr. Pruden started practicing in 2012 for the US Army. He continues to support our troop with both his time and expertise. Dr. Pruden is faculty at the Walter Reed Endodontic Residency, where he teaches and mentors new doctors. He is also Chief of Endodontics for the US Army in the National Capital Region, Program Chairman of the Edward C Penick Endodontic Study Club and winner of multiple research awards.

Not all of Dr. Pruden’s time is dedicated to education and endodontics. He loves to spend time with his wife Tara whom he married in 2010. They currently live in Woodbridge, VA with their four young children. All four children were born within a 4 year period, so they keep him busy outside of work.

Dr. Deepak Wararh

Dr. Deepak Wararh or “Dr. Dee” as we call her at Annandale Smiles earned her undergraduate degree in Punjab, India. She then moved to the United States to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. Dr. Dee began practice dentistry in 2008 and continues expand her expertise and knowledge base through continuing dental education and her involvement in Academy of General Dentistry as an active member.

We asked Dr. Dee to summarize her approach with patients and dentistry. She said “I seek to provide excellent dentistry and individualized care. I have completed numerous dental courses and take CE (continuing education) to enhance my skills.” Dr. Dee was a great addition to the Annandale Smiles Team in early 2019 and we are sure our patients are going to love her.

Dr. Dee loves to spend time with her family in her free time. She is married with a three year old little boy. Her hobbies include reading and cooking for her family and friends.

Meet Our Hygienists

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Say, RDH

Elizabeth joined the Annandale Smiles Hygiene Team in July of 2015 after graduating cum laude from the Northern Virginia Community College Dental Hygiene Program. Elizabeth completed her undergrad at James Madison University, where she studied Biology. She continues to stay active in her education with JMU Tri-Beta (Biology Honors Fraternity) and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Elizabeth is a very active person. She loves hiking, weight lifting, using new healthy recipes, finding farmers markets and traveling. Her fear of heights doesn’t keep her off the hiking trail. Elizabeth tells a lot of jokes (especially puns).

Jimmy

Jimmy Dalgliesh, RDH

Jimmy joined the Annandale Smiles Team in April of 2009, making him our second longest tenured Hygienist. Jimmy is original from Springfield, Virginia and went to Annandale High School. After High School, Jimmy attended Northern Virginia Community College where he earned a degree in Dental Hygiene from the Board of Dentistry.

Jimmy has been married to his high school sweetheart since 2002 and has two children, a boy and a girl. Jimmy loves going to the movies, especially science fiction and action movies. He also enjoys going to the gym and hiking mountain trails.

Virginia

Virginia Proffitt, RDH

Virginia joined the Annandale Smiles Family in October of 2013 after attending Horry-Georgetown Technical College in South Carolina, where she graduated Cum Laude. She was the recipient of the Mary Clary Award for Hygienist of the Year in 2012 by the South Carolina Dental Association Foundation.

Originally from Richmond, she now makes her home in Northern Virginia. Her hobbies include shopping at Anthropologic, drawing, painting, ice skating and singing. Virginia also enjoys having conversations in basic French. Before Virginia got involved in Hygiene, she was interested in art/fashion design.

Rosalie

Rosalie Javier, RDH

Rosalie joined the Annandale Smiles Team in early 2008 making her our longest tenured Hygienist. Originally from the Philippines and born in Japan, Rosalie has literally treated patients across the world. She earned her first degree in dentistry in the Philippines but has continued her education since coming to America. Rosalie earned her Associates Degree from Northern Virginia Community College and then went on to earn her Bachelor Degree and Masters from Penn State. Rosalie is an active participant in the VDHA (Virginia Dental Hygienist Association) and the NVDHA (Northern Virginia Dental Hygienist Association).

Rosalie has a loving family that include her husband and 2 daughters. Rosalie’s husband Rory is active duty military. Rosalie enjoys Zumba, cooking, baking, watching Korean TV Drama, and traveling. She said that she also enjoys babysitting her Tweenie daughter.

Kathleen

Kathleen Sloan, RDH

Kathleen has been with Annandale Smiles since 2011 and has held a couple different positions at the practice. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University, she worked on the Annandale Smiles Front Desk Team before returning to school to complete her Hygiene Degree at Northern Virginia Community College. In 2015, Kathleen rejoined the Annandale Smiles Team as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Kathleen continues to be active with her membership in the ADHA (American Dental Hygienist Association) and NVDHA (Northern Virginia Dental Hygienist Association).

Kathleen is having a big year in 2018, recently getting engaged and purchasing a home. Kathleen is a second generation Hygienist (her mom recently retired) and was born and raised in Annandale. She plays softball and loves her BIG dog Frank.
