Have no fear (literally) with our safe and predictable medicine that instantly eases your anxiety. Our Annandale, VA dentists offer minimal inhaled sedation through nitrous oxide because it’s fast-acting, wears off quickly, and is a proven way to stop dental fear almost instantly.

Sedation dentistry is ideal for:

  • Extreme dental fear or anxiety
  • Strong gag reflexes or high sensitivity
  • Multiple procedures in one appointment

Nitrous Oxide

Keeping you calm in the dentist chair.

Nitrous oxide is a safe and predictable sedation dentistry option that works almost instantly. (It’s also known as laughing gas.) With the help of our teamLearn more about our team, you simply put on a mask over your nose and inhale the nitrous oxide; breathe it in, and you’ll quickly feel relaxed.

You’ll feel calm and in a euphoric-like state but still in control of your body. Our dentistLearn more about our dentist is beside you to control the process and ensure your safety and comfort. At the end of your visit, we will have you breath in some oxygen to clear the nitrous oxide from your body, then you take the mask off and breathe in and out as normal. After that, the sedative effects quickly wear off.

Unlike stronger sedation options, you can drive home after your visit and won’t feel any lingering effects.

Hannah, Cenae, and Nicole are the embodiment of professionalism. They always bring joy to every visit, and I love talking to them after my appointments. On top of those 3 making my reception into the dentists warm and welcome, the dentist's themselves do the best job everytime. My teeth come out cleaner than a baby's bottom and I feel like I have a new mouth leaving the place. I will literally go here until I die. 5/5 would definitely recommend if looking for a new dentist. Best receptionist's ever too.UPDATE:Elizabeth (like the queen) was my hygienist for my most recent visit. Did she do a good job? Is the Pope Catholic? My teeth feel cleaner than a new Lamborghini being unveiled for the first time at an auto show. She always does an amazing job!Still 5/5 would totally recommend for anyone looking for a dentist.

Front desk lady and lady who brought me back were cold but my dental hygienist Jimmy was amazing and so kind. He was friendly and made me comfortable to ask questions and get feedback about my dental care. He and Dr. Johnson both gave me confidence in my care and care plan moving forward. I recently moved but will go out of my way to continue going back. They do a great job working with insurance as well. Highly recommend.

I had an amazing visit today at Annandale Smiles. It started with a friendly staff who confirmed my information before a very short wait for my appointment. Next, I was taken on a short tour of the facility, where the cleanliness and comfortable decor made me feel at ease. Once in the roommy dental hygienist, Jimmy, explained everything that was going to happen in a very comforting manner. If anyone has a fear of dentist, he’s your man. He did such an excellent job of cleaning my teeth, to the extent that I could feel a difference by the end. Doctor Mike came in and checked me over letting me know that I was in good condition. They answered my questions with authority and even advised on some brands to use for what I was looking for. It was an excellent visit and I would wholeheartedly recommend this office!

As a new patient, I loved my experience at Annandale Smiles! The exam rooms were clean and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable! Nancy (the hygienist) explained everything during the cleaning and how to improve my flossing! Dr. Michael and his assistant, Gaby, kept me relaxed and made me feel comfortable during my fillings. Added bonus that they give you a welcome bag with goodies and there’s a ton of free parking! 10/10 would recommend!
